A Few Days After Wike Said He Will Speak Up, Governor Ortom Speaks On Supporting Atiku Abubakar’s Presidential Ambition

Governor Nyesom Wike’s ally, Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue state has a few days after Nyesom Wike stated that he will speak on the rumoured infighting in the People’s Democratic Party’s fold, spoken on supporting the Atiku Abubakar’s presidential bid.

Recall that governor Ortom, while receiving the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi last week, suggested that Peter Obi should dialogue with other presidential candidates for them to step down for him.

Ortom’s statement was interpreted by many to mean that he might not support his party’s presidential flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar following a rumoured mistreatment of his friend, governor Wike by the party’s leadership.

Recall that Nyesom Wike who emerged the first runner-up in the PDP’s Presidential primary election was afterwards backed by some PDP governors including Samuel Ortom, to emerge the party’s vice presidential candidate. A plot which was thwarted by Atiku Abubakar who chose Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa in Wike’s expense.

Interestingly, through his Twitter handle yesterday, governor Ortom revealed that he will not contradict Atiku Abubakar that PDP’s internal wrangling will be settled amicably. He added that he will also give him his support.

“I will not contradict @atiku on what he said. He is my candidate and I am behind him. Whatever happened in the course of the primaries and nomination of the Presidential running mate is now a thing of the past. PDP is a family, and we will always settle our matters in-house”, he tweeted.
