Aisha Yesufu Berates Governor Soludo, Accuses Him Of Undemocratic Act

Prominent Nigerian activist and convener of Bring-back-our-girls, Aisha Yesufu has berated the governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Charles Soludo for reportedly suspending a local government chairman in his state.

The Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Mbazulike Iloka was reportedly suspended by Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo just a few days after his swearing-in as the Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North.

In a letter from the state government to him, it is stated that his suspension is due to the reaction to the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death. He is then urged to step aside pending the conclusion of the investigation of his alleged involvement in his wife’s death.

The letter reads: “Following the sad news of the death of your wife, late Mrs Chidiebere Iloka on 7th August 2022, there has been a massive outcry over the circumstances leading to her death, including alleged possible homicide.

“While you are presumed innocent until the completion of investigations, it has become imperative that you step aside to allow unfettered investigation and justice.

“Consequently, you are directed to step aside and to hand over the affairs of the local government to the head of local government administration, not later than 12th August 2022, until further notice.”

However, while reacting to the report of Iloka’s suspension by governor Soludo, Aisha Yesufu described it as undemocratic and a breach of the Local Government Area autonomy. According to her, the suspect is presumed innocent until a court of law says otherwise.

“The fact that a Governor can suspend Local Council Chairman should worry us. This is undemocratic. Can Buhari suspend Soludo @CCSoludo ?
There should be local government autonomy! Let the police deal with the crime and the court prosecute”, she tweeted.
