“Be Warned”, Nasir El-rufai Tells Tinubu Over Niger
Immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-rufai has warned the leadership of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) headed by Nigeria’s president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to forgo their planned military invasion of Niger.
Former governor El-rufai through his Twitter handle, said ECOWAS is “beating the drums of war” and that war against Niger amounts to war between brothers
“As ECOWAS beats the drums of war, I recall the 1970s rock classic by Dire Straits – ‘Brothers in Arms’, because a war within our subregion is a war between brothers”, he tweeted.
However, Nigerians have described El-rufai’s opinion as hypocritical and laced by his anger over his inability to be part of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet.
Former governor El-rufai prior to his being denied confirmation by the Nigeria’s senate, was tipped to become Nigeria’s minister of power. However, lack of security clearance from the office of the Nigeria’s Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, meant that El-rufai was denied confirmation by the Nigeria’s senate.
