Bola Tinubu/Shettima Risks Being Disqualified – New Electoral Act

The speculation that the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and his running mate, Kashim Shettima being disqualified in line with new 2022 electoral act, is gaining momentum on social media.

According to the new electoral Act on offences in respect of nomination for elective positions, noted among other offences that a candidate stands to be disqualified if he signs and submits nomination form for more than one Constituency in a particular election.

Hence, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima who before his nomination as the running mate to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had signed and submitted senatorial nomination form for Borno Central, risks jeopardizing the APC’s presidential ticket for the 2023 presidential election.

Hence, in line with the new electoral Act which came into effect in 2022, Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Kashim Shettima ticket might be disqualified.

However, Bola Ahmed Tinubu still has till mid August 2022 to substitute his current running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima to avert a possible legal blow to his presidential ambition.
