Bola Tinubu’s Stunning Reaction To The Returned Stolen Benin Bronzes

APC Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

APC Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reacted over the return of stolen Benin bronzes by a London museum to Nigeria as he revealed the importance of the return to the country.

Following the arrival of the 72 artefacts from the Horniman Museum, Tinubu took to his Instagram page to celebrate the return of the artefacts stolen by the British colonial masters in the 19th century while also commending the effort of the museum in ensuring the return of the artefacts.

“I congratulates all Nigerians on the Horniman’s museum decision to return 72 treasured artefacts to their rightful home.

“The Horniman will now be recognized as the first British funded museum to return artefacts to Nigeria. Others, I hope, will soon follow.” He stated.

The Presidential candidate further lauded the effort of Nigerian government for establishment of strong diplomatic ties while also noting the importance of the artefacts to Nigeria.

“I congratulate also the Nigerian government for its diplomacy and deft handling of this sensitive matter.

“Many of these artefacts bear dip historical and spiritual connections  to the cultures from which they were taken, and repatriating them is a welcome step in restoring our heritage, pride, and dignity.

“It also means that Nigeria can begin to benefit from the tourism potential that having these artefacts back home could bring.” He stressed further.

It could be recalled that the Nigeria’s National Commission for Museum and Monuments (NNCMM) had, earlier this year, requested for the return of the stolen artefacts which the London-based admitted to have been forcefully taken during the colonial period.

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, the returned artefacts include 12 brass plaques, a brass cockerel, and a key to the king’s palace.
