CAN Speaks On Reaching Agreement With Tinubu, Says It Cannot Be Bribed

The Christian Association of Nigeria has spoken on report that it has reached a truce with the All Progressive Congress (APC) over the party’s Muslim-muslim presidential ticket.

Recall that the catholic Bishop of sokoto Diocese, Mathew Hassan Kukah has in his reaction to the APC’s Muslim-muslim presidential ticket,  made it clear that the APC’s choice is a set back on the country’s progress on national integration.

The Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN) has maintained it earlier stance on not supporting a Muslim-muslim presidential ticket of the APC which the body had described as insensitivity to Nigeria’s religious diversity and demeaning of the Christian body by the party’s hierarchy.

Furthermore, CAN in a statement berated Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the APC for his donation to Reverend Matthew Kukah on his 70th birthday and said that the donation will not be seen as bribe to make the body change it’s stance.

“The attention of the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria has been drawn to a media report titled, ‘How Tinubu met, resolved Muslim-Muslim ticket with CAN’, which claimed that the apex Christian body had changed its position regarding the same faith ticket

“To say the least, the story is ridiculous, malicious, untrue and should be disregarded by the public”.

The body further warned Political parties to desist from making claims capable of heating up the polity and endangering peace. It enjoined politicians to place the interest of the nation above their selfish pursuit.
