Clergy Reportedly Sets Lady Ablaze During Prayer Session In Ogun

A pastor of the Cherubim and Seraphim church Parish located in Offin in the Sagamu area of Ogun State, has reportedly set a 21-year-old lady identified as, Sukura Owodunni ablaze during a prayer session.

The incident took place on 17th August, 2023, when the lady visited the church for a planned prayer session with the clergy.

It was revealed that the clergy instructed the lady to buy local eggs, a candle and a perfume for carrying out the prayers, which she bought all items needed.

However, while conducting the prayer, the clergy poured the perfume on the lady’s body, and lit the candle which got attracted to the perfume and the lady was on fire, inflicting serious burns to her body parts ( shoulder, chest and legs).

It was revealed that the clergy was arrested by the police after the Divisional Police Officer in Adigbe, CSP Abdulfattah Ogunsanya, arrived the church premises on Tuesday.

The state police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, affirmed that the incident took place and revealed that investigation is ongoing to ascertain what transpired and will ensure justice is served.

Odutola said;

“The lady was said to have been abandoned to fend for her medical bills after the incident. The victim has been taken to the hospital for medical attention.

“Our men have arrested the suspect. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department after the preliminary investigation is perfected,”
