Court Awards $800k To Girl Who Sustained Mouth Burn While Eating McDonald’s Hot Chicken Nuggets

On Thursday, 20th July, 2023, a court in United States awarded a family based in Florida $800,000 in a civil lawsuit against McDonald’s and one of it’s franchisees, after a toddler sustained mouth burn while eating hot chicken nuggets.
The jury who presided over the case ruled that McDonald’s should pay the family of the toddler $800,000, for causing pain, disfigurement, inconvenience and mental anguish to the toddler and her family.
The compasation break down reveals that the first $400,000 is for injuries sustained in the past while eating the chicken, another $400,000 for damages that might be sustained in the future.
The attorney representing the family said,
“This momentous decision brings meaningful closure to an arduous and protracted legal process.
Having previously established the defendants, Upchurch Foods Inc and McDonald’s USA LLC, as liable for their wrongful actions, this verdict reaffirms that they must now face the consequences and provide full justice.”
