EFCC Reveals Why They Didn’t Bring Emefiele To Court
Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele was suppose to be at the Abuja High Court today, 6th November, 2023, for the hearing of his case with the Economic and Finance Crime Commission, ( EFCC).
The EFCC failed to present him in court today against the court order.
The Abuja High Court on Thursday, ordered the EFCC to bring the former CBN Governor to court today, or released release him from their custody.
Emefiele’s legal representative, Mathew Burkaa, accused the commission of flouting court order, stating that his client has been in their custody for 149 days.
Responding the accusation by Emefiele’s legal counsel, the EFCC’s legal representative, Farouk Abdullahi, denied that the CBN former boss had spent over 149 days under their custody.
He further revealed that due to certain exhibits referred to by the applicant, particularly exhibit E, were not attached to the order, their failure to present Emefiele in court was not intentional.
However, the Judge presiding over the case, Justice Olusegun Adeniyi, still maintained the initial order, that the EFCC should release Emefiele or present him in court as the case was adjourned till 8th November, 2023.
