Former Manchester United’s defender consoles Raheem Sterling over memes

Chelsea Forward, Raheem Sterling

Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has expressed his condolence to new Chelsea man, Raheem Sterling, following the conversion of the winger’s awkward moment against Everton into meme.

The now trending memes saw Sterling scrambling under Everton’s defender, Yerry Mina, who was also pulling the Chelsea man up.

Reacting to the memes on his Twitter handle, Rio Ferdinand, who had similar experience against former Man City’s striker, Carlos Tevez, during a 2010 Manchester derby, expressed his grievance over the incident while urging Sterling to get over it.

“Just been sent this. 😩 Raheem Sterling I feel your pain now bro… brace yourself for the memes!!!” He tweeted

During the 2010 Manchester derby, Ferdinand had engaged Carlos Tevez in a duel with the Man City forward keen on dispossessing his old teammate.

The defender had succumbed to the pressure, scrambled over the ball as Tevez struggled to get him off.

In a similar version, Raheem Sterling had a doggy encounter with Yerry Mina during Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Everton.

The tricky winger, renowned for diving, fell under the pressure of the Everton’s defender while calling the attention of the referee.

However, Yerry Mina didn’t buy into the trick as he struggled to get the Chelsea man back on his feet- a moment caught on camera which birthed the now famous memes.

Several ridiculous reactions trailed the incident with some social media users sharing pictures of similar awkward moments.

Meanwhile, Sterling’s Premier League debut for Chelsea was marked with victory as a lone goal by Jorginho sealed the win for the blues.

Following a not too impressive pre-season tour, Chelsea kick-started the 2022/23 Premier League season away against the Toffees.

Thomas Tuchel’s men, however, put the past behind as they secured a win over Frank Lampard’s Everton side.
