Former Nigeria’s Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon Is Dead
Former Military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) has reportedly died after protracted illness. He died at the age of 89.
He is a retired Nigerian army general and former head of state who presided over the infamous Nigeria-Biafra civil in 1967 to 1970.
He is the youngest person to become Nigeria’s head of state at 31 years old. His regime witnessed the Nigeria’s civil war. His popular speech at the end of the Nigeria’s civil war and which aimed to promote reconciliation between the warring fractions of Nigeria, stands him out. He had declared at the end of the war that there were “no Victor and no vanquish”.
