Leaked: Date PEPT Judges To Deliver Judgement On Peter Obi And Atiku’s Suit Leaks
Supporters of Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar anxiously await the date the presidential election petition tribunal will deliver its ruling on Atiku and Peter Obi’s suit challenging president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential victory.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared president Bola Ahmed Tinubu the winner of the hotly contested February 25th Nigeria’s presidential election. Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s electoral victory however left some trails of doubt on the credibility of the election especially as INEC is accused of deliberately refusing to transmit votes from polling units as the electoral umpire had boasted before the conduct of the election.
A few International observers comprising ECOWAS and European Union Delegates in their testimonies, doubted the credibility of the election which produced president Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The election is said to be flawed by voter’s apathy, suppression through intimidation, violence and INEC inability to follow its guidelines.
Both Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar are hopeful of upturning Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s controversial presidential victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT). Both Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi suits challenging the presidential election results, have been heard by the PEPT, written addresses submitted while the parties await the date the PEPT will deliver its judgement.
The Nigerian constitution mandates the PEPT to round off the cases and deliver judgement (s) on or before 180 days.
An unnamed insider who claims privy to some plots by the members of the PEPT, alleges that the PEPT are unlikely to deliver judgement soon. According to him, the PEPT will deliver judgement 24hours to the 180 days expiration. He claims the plot is necessary to fetch Bola Ahmed Tinubu more time to reduce the tension in the country and try to endear himself to Nigerians.
Interestingly, the PEPT is mandated to rule on Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar’s suit against INEC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC and Kashim Shetima on or before September 16th, 2023.
