NDLEA Advised To Start Testing NYSC Members At Orientation Camps
Following the intensified fight against drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria by the current leadership o the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), the agency has been advised to test members of the NYSC in NYSC orientation camps across the country.
Veteran investigative Nigerian journalist and forefront advocate against drug abuse, Kemi Olunloyo through her Twitter handle, enjoined NDLEA to carry out drug test on prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps before their admittance into orientation camps.
According to Kemi Olunloyo, the drug test should be outlined as a mandatory requirement which those who want to enroll in the National Youth Service must undergo.
She further stated that she will send the proposal to the NDLEA board for consideration. She explained that the initiative has become necessary because of the alarming rate at which undergraduates and graduates abuse drug substance.
“NO STUDENT should be allowed to participate in the NYSC WITHOUT a drug test. The @ndlea_nigeria must test every graduate enrolled. It should be a standard requirement and I will send a proposal to the agency’s board on that. The rate of drug use among corpers is astounding”, she tweeted
