NYSC Confirms That Minister Of Arts And Culture Is Still A Serving Corp Member, Condemns Appointment

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), through their spokesperson, Eddy Megwa, has addressed the trending report that the newly appointed Minister of Arts and Culture, Mrs. Hannatu Musawa, is still a serving Corp Member.

Recall that, The Reliant News earlier reported about how Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, (HURIWA), condemned the Senate for not carrying out proper screening and investigation about the minister, before she was sworn in by President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

They called on NYSC to look into the issue and force the serving minister to focus either on the appointment, or first complete the mandatory national service.

However, the body has affirmed the allegation by HURIWA, stating that the minster in question is still a serving Corp Member.

They revealed that Musawa was mobilised in 2001 for program, but after her orientation in Ebonyi state, she redeployed to Kaduna State to complete the service, but she didn’t complete it.

While speaking further, Megwa condemned the act, stating that it is against the Nigerian Constitution, which stipulated that before anyone will be qualified to occupy any public position, he or she must have completed the one year mandatory program.

He stated that body would look into the issue to ensure that the right thing is done.
