Ousted Gabonese president, Ali Bongo speaks while in military detention, cries for help
On 30th of August, 2023, three days after the Gabonese general elections in which now embattled president of Gabon, Ali Bongo was declared elected for third term, Gabonese military announced seizure of power in the central African country.
The election which returned Ali Bongo for third term is adjudged lacking local and international credibility. The military intervention in Gabon meant that the 53 year domination of Gabon by the Bongos dynasty, has been truncated. Ali Bongo had succeeded his father in 2009 and was at the verge of his third term before the military coup.
Interestingly, while many cared for the safety of the ousted president of Gabon, he has now in a video released on the internet, cried for help from international, regional and local friends of Gabon.
“I am begging you”, he said in the 45 minute video while encouraging his friends to “make noise” as regarding his safety and those of the members of his family who have been separated from him.
