Popular Federal Varsity Students Stage Protest Over The Death Of Their Colleague

Students of Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), on Friday, 25th August, staged a protest at the Akure-Ilesa expressway, over the careless and nonperformance of staffs at the school’s medical center, which led to the death of their colleague.

According to the report, the deceased identified as, Ayomide Akeredolu, a 500-level student of the institution, fainted in his hostel on Thursday, 24th August, 2023 and was rushed to the school’s medical center and after some minutes of delay, he was pronounced dead.

However, this triggered altercation in the medical facility and his colleagues mobilized other students to join them the next day to stage a protest against the school management for their poor medical response and negligence.

Speaking further about the incident, a student who pleaded anonymity, revealed that when deceased colleague sl¥mped at their hostel, without waste of time they rushed him to the medical center around 8:30pm.

When they got to the school’s medical center, there was power outage and while he was administered injections and CPR, the light was still not restored.

In Some of his words;

“We rushed the guy to the health center around 8:30 pm, when we got there, there was power outage, and throughout the oxygen set up, CPR and inj£ctions they gave him, the light wasn’t restored, we had to use our flashlights, hard to believe that there’s no backup power supply in the hospital.” He stated.
