Senator Confirms Receiving Akpabio’s “Holiday Token”, Reveals Outrageous Amount He Received

A local Nigerian newspaper, The Whistler, has shared a screenshot from a senator representing one of the three senatorial districts in Ondo state who confirmed receiving Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s controversial “holiday token”.

Recall that Godswill Akpabio, Nigeria’s senate President was ignorant of live tv coverage of the Senate session when he announced to the senators that a token will be sent to their accounts by the Senate clerk. According to the Senate President, the senators should use the token to enjoy their holidays.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio realizing that he was on live tv and as his colleague protested why he was making such a statement openly, said he withdraws his earlier “holiday token” statement.  He then rebranded the statement to mean that prayers will be sent to the emails of the 109 senators.

Interestingly, the Whistler reports that a senator has confirmed by a screenshot that the 109 senators received 2 million Naira from the Senate clerk in line with Akpabio’s directive.

Nigerians had protested why the senators are sharing money amid the increasing hardship bedeviling Nigerians.
