Why Governor Seyi Makinde Rejected To Be Chairman Of PDP Governors ‘ Forum
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been grappling with internal crisis since the conclusion of the party’s presidential primary election which produced Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate.
The Southern members of the PDP unofficially led by governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has been demanding the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Ayu Iyorchia, alleging imbalance of leadership positions between the South and the North.
Wike and his allies which includes the governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde claim that the major decision making positions of the party are occupied by the northerners, leaving the southerners as second fiddle.
Despite PDP’s attempt to reshuffle it positions which resulted in the resignation of the party’s Board of Trustees chairman, and the chairman of the party’s governors forum for the emergence of southerners, Wike and his allies are still dissatisfied.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State did reportedly resign as the PDP’s Governors’ Forum chairman so as for governor Seyi Makinde to take over; a position he has allegedly rejected.
According to an inner circle of Wike’s camp who confided in the Reliant News, governor Makinde has rejected the position on the ground that the party has shown Its incapacitation to restructure Nigeria by its failure to restructure itself.
“Governor Seyi Makinde has rejected the position as Chairman of PDP Governors Forum.
“He stated that the PDP cannot restructure Nigeria if it cannot restructure itself”, he told the Reliant News.
