“You did not prove your case”, PEPT tells Peter Obi in its ruling

The presidential election petition tribunal has ruled that Peter Obi and Labour Party failed to prove their allegation that Obi’s votes were reduced and added to the eventual winner of the Presidential Election, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Obi had claimed in his petition against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressive Congress, and Kashim Shetima that there were some irregularities in the conduct of the presidential election which produced president Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, the presidential tribunal has faulted the claims, describing the allegation as vague and generic allegation which wasn’t specified and proven by the petitioner.

The tribunal ruled that Obi failed to show and prove the number of polling units affected, number of votes, the polling units agents which reported the claims.

Also, the tribunal struck out the respondent’s argument that Peter Obi was not duly registered as a member of the Labour Party prior to the conduct of the presidential election. According to the court, party membership is an internal affairs and only the affected party has the power to determine its membership.
