AFCON 2023: Nigeria Thrash South Africa To Qualify For Finals

On Wednesday, 7th February, Joy and laughter erupted in Nigeria, as Super Eagles defeated Bafana Bafana of South Africa, in the semi finals of the ongoing Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) to qualify for the finals.

The match ended 1-1 after extra time. William Troost-Ekong scored in 67 minutes of the match and South Africa’s Teboho Mokoena equalized in 90th-minute.

Victor Osihmen seems unlucky in the tournament as late VAR drama denied him a goal, before the penalty shoot outs which ended 4-2 in favour of the Super Eagles.

Super Eagles goal keeper, Stanley Nwabali was the man of the match after saving two penalty kicks.

Substitute Kelechi Iheanacho scored to give Nigeria a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over South Africa.

Nigeria will be facing the host nation Ivory Coast in the final on Sunday. Ivory coast was able to qualify for the finals after beating their rival Dr Congo in the semi finals.
