Professor Of Popular Federal Varsity D!es Over Inability To Afford Good Healthcare

Amid the hardship and economic Crisis in the country, a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Professor, Segun Johnson Oyero, has d!ed over his inability to afford been treated at a medical center with quality facilities and health professionals.

This was revealed on Monday, 19th February, by the coordinator of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abuja Zone, Salahu Muhammed.

According to Muhammed, 46 members of the zone also lost their lives due to unfavorable working conditions, poor salary supported by the hardship in the country.

His words partly;

“It is also worthy of note that the union has lost several members during the period under review due to herculean working conditions, psychological and emotional stress, and diseases related to these conditions. For instance, universities in the Abuja zone have lost 46 members,”

“In fact, just two days back, the union lost an eminent Professor of Fisheries, Johnson Oyero of the Federal University of Technology, Minna due to inability to afford a quality medical facility.” he said.

Speaking further, the second ASUU Abuja zonal coordinator, Salahu Lawal, stated that salaries of Lecturers were withheld, during the period former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration invoked a ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy on members of the union that embarked on a strike that lasted eight months in 2022.

However, President Bola Tinubu directed that the salaries should be released, but only few members got paid two-month salaries of the seven-and-a-half-month withheld salaries, while many have not gotten anything.
