Suspected Cultist Lynched Over Murder Of Final Year Student In Uyo

Following the report of door to door robbery attack on residents around University of Uyo (UNIUYO), in Itu Local Government Area, which led to the death of a final year student of the institution.

On Tuesday, 13th February, a suspected cultist was lynched and burnt to death by group of angry mob for allegedly masterminding the robbery attack within the environ.

According to an eyewitness, Sifon Ekere, the deceased student identified as, Okon was with his girlfriend when the robbers invaded the area on Sunday morning.

They broke into his apartment, following his refusal to open the door, shot and made away with his mobile phone.

Ekere said;

“When the hoodlums shouted on him (the deceased student) to open his door, he refused. I think it was because of his girlfriend who came that Saturday night to spend the night that made him refused to open the door.

“The criminals broke into his apartment and shot him in the stomach. He struggled and fled into the thick night with the gunshot and collapsed at the back of the compound. The robbers took his phone as they left the scene.

“The deceased’s landlord, Mr. Archibong Ebong’s apartment and other tenants were also robbed. Whereabouts of the girlfriend of the deceased arrested by the Police, who responded to distressed calls about two hours late, is unknown.

“The life of the final year student could have been saved, but for late arrival of the tricyclist, who took the victim first to nearby UNIUYO clinic, where medics rejected him as he eventually died of loss of blood at the referral Anua General Hospital, Nwaniba, Uyo.”

Affirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Waheed Ayilara, revealed that they are engaging into thorough search to ensure that the perpetrators of the crime is apprehended, and made to face the law.
