AFCON 2023: Cote D’Ivoire Emerges As New African Champion

Finally the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) has come to an end, the Elephant of Cote d’Ivoire emerged as the new African Champion, after defeating the Super Eagles of Nigeria 2-1 on Sunday, 11th February.

Super Eagle’s defender, Troost-Ekong opened the score line in the 38th minute of the match, giving Nigerians much hope.

The Ivorian pushed harder and better to equalize in the 62nd minute of the match, after Franck Kessie headed the ball into the right side of the net making it 1-1.

In the 81st minute of the game, Sebastien Haller scored the wining goal, making it 2-1 in favour of Cote d’Ivoire.

The Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire lifted the trophy and will be given $7m in prize money, and Super Eagles of Nigeria will be handed $4m by the Confederation of African Football as the second team in the tournament.

Nigeria has lifted the trophy thrice, Cote D’Ivoire after the win on Sunday added new collection to meet up with their opponent.
