Bafana Bafana forward and starman, Percy Tau has disclosed the reason their goalkeeper and captain, Ronwen Williams couldn’t save a penalty against the super Eagles of Nigeria.

Ronwen Williams four-penalty saves in South Africa vs Cape Verde quarter final match, placed him as one of the best-performing goalkeepers at the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire. However, the Bafana Bafana captain could not replicate his heroics in the South Africa – Cape Verde match during penalty shootout between Bafana Bafana and the Super Eagles of Nigeria as two penalty saves by Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali meant that the Super Eagles progressed to the final.

However, Percy Tau in his post match interview while commenting on Ronwen Williams’ inability to save a penalty against the Super Eagles, argued that it was simply not the goalkeeper’s lucky day. He reminisced his heroic against Cape Verde and noted that it is still fresh in their memories.

“He tried his best to save some of the penalties but sometimes it happens that it’s not your day

“He saved us the last time and we’re still happy with him. Congratulations to Nigeria”.
