Video shows moment angry students of Michael Okpala University attacked their VC Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe

Aggrieved students of Michael Okpala University of Agriculture, Umudike, reportedly confronted their Vice Chancellor, Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe who was enforcing “no-full-school-fee, no-exam” on the campus.

The University began its first semester examination on the 5th of February, 2024, an examination which witnessed the majority of the students denied access to the examination halls due to incomplete tuition fee payment. The University authority had a few weeks ago, notified the students about new increment on tuition fee.

The hike is said to vary across departments in the university and within 20-30% hike.  The latest increment on tuition fee is said to have provoked to anger most of the students of the university whose tuition fee was also increased last  session.

A 400-level student of the university who spoke to the Reliant News said ” last session, the VC increased our school fee from 54000 Naira to 86000 Naira. This session again, he increased it from 86000 Naira to 130000 Naira. The country is hard and this is not a private school. We are pleading with him to allow us pay by installment but he says no school fee no exam. We can’t just fold out hands like that. I don’t want to drop out nor have extra year”.

Another student further appealed to the relevant government agencies to prevail on their VC, Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe so that he would allow them sit for their exams and complete their tuition fees by installment.

The VC was reportedly accosted by angry students today while he went about the university campus enforcing his “no-complete-fee, no-exam ” as he did yesterday.
